Just Cause

He cracks me up. He has taken to wearing safety glasses most of the time and he does this little dance that is more like a jig.  It's even cuter in snow shoes.

Feeling Blue

Elias has blue hair dye and is often sporting a whole or partial head of blue hair.  The other day he decided to share it.  I was late on getting a photo- this is after a few washes!

Awesome

For Mother's Day my Dad always gifts me with a new book, topics ranging from mothering to the history of women in India, to homeschooling, the topics couldn't be more varied, which is part of why I love the gift. A book catches his eye and he thinks of me. This year was 1000 Awesome Things ; which is a collection of day to day things that people consider awesome. These are the little things that rock your day.

Coming out of line at the school cafeteria, looking around for your group of friends to sit with. You don't see anyone you know, you shuffle around trying to by time until you find someone you know. Just as you are resigning to the fact that you are sitting by yourself this time you see a hand go up, waving and its your friends! That feeling just then, finding your friends, awesome. The smell of a bakery when you first walk in, finding out what you needed to by also happens to be on sale, etc. There are 1000. Not an earth shattering book, but a fun read to flip through when you have a few minutes here and there, reminding you of everyday great things.
I was sharing a few of these 'awesome' things at the dinner table the other day. A few of them the kids couldn't really relate to, or see the greatness in. Partly because of their age and partly because of their lifestyle. The conversation did lead to chatting about what they felt were awesome daily kind of things.

I loved what they came up with.
Digging in the Lego bucket, searching for one particular piece. Digging and digging among hundreds of pieces thinking you aren't ever going to find it, it is so tiny and then...! awesome there it is!

Finding a huge log at the beach, dragging it out to the water, and it floats! you and your friends ride it in the water!

Digging a hole, with no time restriction. Feeling free to dig as deep or as wide as you want, without being interrupted and knowing you won't get in trouble (they have a hole digging section and they can dig here without consequence).

When it's your turn on the computer. The egg timer is set for your 20 min. turn, and you are playing your favorite game and when its done you realise you got an extra 10 minutes because the timer stopped and didn't ding. Awesome!

Having your favorite food for dinner and then surprise! tonight there is dessert!

So I can remember

While running around at coop I hear Aria say to a friend

It's difficult to run today, I am sporadically uncomfortable.

After her friend asks what she means, she responds

Out of the blue, unexpectedly I feel uncomfortable

During dinner I am telling the kids a story about when they were younger and Aria is looking at me intently. After asking what she was thinking about she responded

I am trying to create a visual about what you are describing.

Out of the Mouths of Babes

While chatting about inviting some friends over for a movie night we were sharing ideas about what might be a good movie to watch. Lots of ideas where being thrown around.
A suggested how about an action movie, something like Beatrix Potter.

Pouring a glass of almond milk, B is reading the package. He stops and says this says is unsweetened, that means it has no sugar! What are we going to do about that (gasp!)?

This weekend we were bagging leaves, lots of leaves. We are going to use them as an insulator for under the chicken coop. While holding open a bag, while I filled it A was singing a song she made up;
I feel like my life and all my time is taken up by looking, looking, looking, into a bag.

Time to gather up everyone into the car, while doing roll call I ask S if he is ready to go
Of course, I have star shoes I can do anything

Put This One On Your Must Do List!

This kids entered the egg toss with different friends who were at the fair. You could tell by the expressions on their face it was a lot of fun, filled with a good dash of fear. That never knowing if the next catch will be successful. I was impressed with how long they stayed in and no one got egged, all in all a success.
I convinced Chris to enter with me. All of the games had an adult section, which was fun. So the egg toss. We were doing really well. There were four or five of us left, out of about 20 pairs. I was feeling pretty confident. You know where this is going, right? The next toss was a little shorter than the others, I need to reach forward to grab the egg. Perhaps that's what caused it to literally explode in my hands, covering both the inside and outside of my shirt, my face, my hair, down my arms and onto my pants. Covered. Literally. I swear it was a double yoke because no normal egg holds that much inside. Thank goodness for wet wipes.

Later on in the craft hall a stranger said to me; "from know on everyone here will know you as the egg lady".

All in fun. And it is one of those things you must give a try.

Every Day Is a Concert Kind of a Day

These two love to entertain. A song, a poem, a dance, a joke. You name the time and place, they will be there. I am a fan, so I get front row seats.
